Senior Biomedical Engineer (for China)

AMI Healthcare, an international healthcare services provider of hospital operations and management, is expanding its healthcare operations into Asia.

AMI Healthcare is engaged in the commissioning phase of a new multi-specialty clinic in Guangdong province, China. The medical center will have seven (7) stories with a total of 13,000 sqm of clinical space and be equipped with state of the art technology to provide advanced diagnostic and treatment. More than 50 medical specialties including day surgery will be offered in an outpatient environment. It will be one of the few international clinics that also has specialty centers for Diabetes, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Women’s Health and Oncology. The building is already constructed, and design and construction are expected to be completed within the next 9-12 months. 

SUMMARY
Seeking a Senior Biomedical Engineer to work on cross-functional teams throughout the development process and who will be responsible for performing & overseeing biomedical/mechanical engineering, design, and development work. This role involves, but is not limited to, the planning, designing, procurement, installation, implementation and subsequent testing of all equipment required for the medical center. This position requires relocation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To calibrate, repair, evaluate, inspect and maintain medical equipment and instrumentation including the diagnosis and repair of moderately complex and difficult technical problems in the field
  • To support existing operation equipment/processes/systems on a day-to-day basis including, but not limited to, standard bioprocess skills, maintenance of common laboratory equipment, process/product engineering, documentation, equipment validation/verification, specification creation and resolution of production processing issues
  • To develop design concepts and ideas for new products/equipment and product/equipment improvements as well as processes, procedures and systems
  • To adhere to design controls and documenting all product development work in a Design History File
  • To develop prototypes of design concepts for engineering testing and evaluation
  • To coordinate and test equipment for functionality, safety and analyze the accuracy, sensitivity and selectivity measurements
  • To perform preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems
  • To perform acceptance testing for all new assigned medical equipment
  • To establish correct and safe operation of all new equipment and ensures that equipment meets all manufacturer specification prior to acceptance
  • To perform repairs on medical equipment and testing on all new and repaired systems or units within the department's responsibility
  • To ensure that any complaint by any inspection force is handled as a priority
  • To respond to and make skills available in all “Emergency Urgent” work requests
  • To diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions prioritized by importance
  • To maintain code requirements for all assigned equipment and conformance of codes regarding all new equipment prior to first use
  • To monitor biomedical equipment, including work done by outside contractors, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and codes
  • To properly document the results of any and all inspections, maintenance, and tests performed upon completion
  • To maintain appropriate and accurate documentation in adherence with policy
  • To review/approve SOPs, test protocols, laboratory research reports and provides laboratory oversight as needed
  • To perform human factors (usability studies), market assessment, or pre-clinical research
  • To provide technical assistance and instruction to personnel regarding equipment operation including basic troubleshooting and repairs
  • To provide technical support on all new/replaced biomedical equipment under the department’s responsibility
  • To ensure that the scheduling and completion of all warranty work is accomplished
  • To adhere to and promote proper practices and techniques which are consistent with current operating procedures, training requirements, safety practices and company policies
  • To stay up to date on current new developments in and pertaining to the department of Biomedical Engineering
  • To review and stay up to date on regulations of the Joint Commission
  • To partner with all key stakeholders to ensure deadlines/statuses and desired end results are achieved and communicated in a timely and efficient manner
  • To participate in special projects and support operations activity on an as needed basis
  • To participate in financial objectives and performance goals
  • To constantly strive to improve every process by which work is accomplished
  • To maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge, including attendance at educational programs
  • To manage related projects
  • Note: The term medical equipment may be either or electronic, mechanical and computer-based technologies for use in clinical or research applications
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or related field with 5-7 years of related experience OR Master’s degree with 3-5 years of related experience OR Ph.D. degree with at least 2 years of related experience
  • Must have a strong command of English, bilingual candidates with Mandarin and English preferred
  • Must have at least five (5) years’ experience in Biomedical Equipment Technology / Engineering and previous experience in healthcare planning and commissioning of newly built hospital(s)
  • Must have a strong understanding of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, prints, drawings and models
  • Must be knowledgeable in the materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of buildings
  • Must have competence in repair of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and/or computer medical technology to sufficient degree to diagnose and repair devices and systems
  • Must be able to learn equipment maintenance and repair procedures from training materials and courses
  • Must be able to perform electronic testing and troubleshooting involving specialized and generic test equipment
  • Must be able to perform in a highly independent manner working within the broad scope of established department policies, procedures and goals
  • Must be able to perform during emergency or stressful situations
  • Must be able to multitask and work flexibly in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to endure long periods of walking and standing
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Must be able to maneuver and lift heavy equipment occasionally
  • Must be able to teach other technical and clinical personnel
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible and maintain punctuality
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills necessary to be part of an integral working team and the ability to interact with users of all levels

COMPENSATION
  • The compensation and benefits package comprise of a salary (commensurable to the position, candidate's experience and qualifications) plus annual bonus, medical insurance and other fringe benefits.
